Elise Vogel Campbell ’00 Obituary

By Katie Flanagan
 on January 4, 2021

The St. Albert extended family is deeply saddened by the passing of Elise Campbell.  Elise was a proud 2000 St. Albert graduate and the daughter of longtime SA supporters, Tim & Lynn Vogel.  Elise was a heart transplant survivor and fought a valiant battle against cancer.  Elise’s classmates, friends, former and current staff members will gather at St. Albert to watch the service Saturday – all are welcome.  Elise was deep and devout in her Christian faith and would no doubt appreciate continued prayers for her husband, Nathan, sister,  and her entire family.  Please also join now in praying for the repose of Elise’s soul…

Eternal rest grant unto Elise O Lord: And let perpetual light shine upon her.
May Elise rest in peace. Amen
May Elise’s soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed through the mercy of God our Father rest in peace. Amen

Elise C. Campbell, 38, of Tucson, AZ passed away on December 23, 2020.   She was born February 21, 1982 in Council Bluffs, IA, the daughter of Timothy E and Lynn E (Bigelow) Vogel.

Elise graduated from St. Albert Catholic High School, Class of 2000.  She attended the University of Northern Iowa and received a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development.  She was united in marriage to Nathan Campbell on May 14, 2005.  Elise taught preschool at St. John Lutheran Church School in Fairbank, IA, served as an administrative assistant at Upper Iowa University in Cedar Falls, IA for 5 years, and worked for Revolution Church in Tucson, AZ for 2 years.  In 2011, she and Nathan relocated to Phoenix, AZ with his work and then relocated again to Tucson, AZ in 2015 where she resided with her loving husband until her passing.

Elise enjoyed life to the fullest and was always positive, encouraging, and witty.  She was a volunteer for Donate Life and was always ready to lend a helping hand where needed.  She enjoyed organizing, gardening, hiking, traveling with Nathan, photography, reading, music, dancing, yoga, cooking, and ice cream.  Elise battled health issues for the majority of her life but never let that hold her back from being a light and inspiration to others.  She loved the Lord, Nathan, their dog Fletcher, her family and friends, and her doctors and nurses.

Elise was preceded in death by her grandparents Lowell C Bigelow, Jr. and Virginia (Lanham) Bigelow, Dennis Vogel, Sr. and Leona (Weber) Vogel, aunts, great aunts and uncles, and great grandparents.

New Proclamation Guidelines

By Katie Flanagan
 on November 17, 2020

Saint Albert Families,

Per Governor Reynolds proclamation, all youth sports and activities are suspended. This includes elementary, middle school, and PAL basketball, wrestling, dance, etc. Practices and games are NOT allowed during this time starting TODAY.

Due to last weeks’ proclamation, we have edited our winter guidelines. You can view those guidelines at https://saintalbertschools.org/rosters/. If you have any questions concerning athletics, please email Ken Schreiber, Athletic Director, at schreiberk@saintalbertschools.org.

The Saint Albert administration wanted to clarify hybrid learning that was mentioned last week in communication. We are not currently planning to implement this option, but wanted to reiterate a possible change in schedule. Your student’s daily schedules will remain the same as their 8 period day. Their teachers will communicate with them via Google Classroom, which is also how they will “attend” class.

If your last name begins with letters A-K:

  • attend school on-site Monday through Wednesday of week one
  • attend virtually Thursday and Friday of week one
  • attend school on-site Monday and Tuesday of week two
  • attend school virtually Wednesday through Friday of week two

If your last name begins with letters L-Z:

  • attend virtually Monday through Wednesday of week one
  • school on-site Thursday and Friday of week one
  • attend virtually Monday and Tuesday of week two
  • attend school on-site Wednesday through Friday of week two

Please remain diligent and wear your mask at all times.

Community Update

By Katie Flanagan
 on November 13, 2020

Dear Saint Albert Community,

The administration wanted to take the time to update the community concerning the coronavirus, especially after Governor Reynolds’ press conference on Tuesday morning regarding the increase in positive cases in the state of Iowa.

Although we finished our first quarter in the middle of the pandemic, with few interruptions, we implore all of our families to continue to take safety precautions to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

General Reminders

Please continue to practice:

  • Wear your mask properly – covering your nose and mouth.
  • Social distance from others outside of your household.
  • Stay home if you or someone in your household is sick, currently being tested for coronavirus or awaiting test results, someone in the household has tested positive, or a person has been instructed to quarantine by the county health officials.
  • Be mindful of evening and weekend activities.

Athletics and Activities

After this morning, there are further guidelines that warrant communicating with our families:

  • We are suspending all athletic banquets at this time through January 10 due to phase 3 regathering guidelines released by the diocese.
  • Basketball and wrestling guidelines will be communicated to all families in the coming weeks.
  • We have suspended the band pep bus for Friday’s game.
  • With the new clarification provided by the Governor and support from the University of Northern Iowa, IHSAA is full steam ahead with the semi-finals this weekend.  There is not a 2 person limit at the game on Friday.  Black Hawk County is now limiting the game to 2,400 which is 15% capacity of the UNI Dome.  You only may purchase tickets today ONLINE.  There will NOT be walk up sales at the box office.  For more information on the tickets, please see the instructions at https://saintalbertschools.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Football-State-Guidelines.pdf.

Academics

This summer, we published our return to learn plan, which is still available on the school’s website. With the increase in cases, we want to remind everyone about the hybrid learning model. Although we are not currently pursuing this option, we want our community to be mindful that it may become necessary to implement this learning model to keep our staff and students safe. Please consider what arrangements will need to be made to accommodate your household.

  • All students who participate in remote learning will receive grades, and attendance will be recorded.
  • Teachers will provide direct lessons, personalized instruction, and students and families will be expected to adhere to all appropriate learning expectations.
  • Students will be assessed and will receive regular homework assignments.
  • The same school policies and procedures apply to students when participating in remote learning, just like when they attend class in-person.
  • Breakfast and lunch will still be available.

  • attend virtually Monday through Wednesday of week two
  • attend school on-site Thursday and Friday of week two

If your last name begins with letters L-Z:

  • attend virtually Monday through Wednesday of week one
  • attend school on-site Thursday and Friday of week one
  • attend school on-site Monday through Wednesday of week two
  • attend virtually Thursday and Friday of week two

At this point, we have not reported positive cases building-wide due to FERPA regulations and guidance from the Department of Education.  If your child may be linked by contact tracing, an administrator or one of the school nurses will be in contact with the child’s parent.

We continue to pray for all of those affected by the coronavirus.

Saint Albert the Great, pray for us!

God Bless You,
Anne Rohling ’82
