Saint Albert Catholic Schools is committed to providing a high-quality education to any student who desires it, regardless of financial resources. Thus, Saint Albert offers numerous scholarships to help families with the cost of tuition. About 30% of our families receive tuition assistance that is available through foundation scholarships, academic scholarships, tuition assistance, and work/study programs.
Saint Albert Educational Foundation Tuition Assistance Scholarships
The Saint Albert Foundation offers over 175 scholarships to help offset the cost of tuition.
Saint Albert Educational Foundation The Foundation uses an authorized agent, FAIR, to assess a family’s financial need and allocate scholarships based on this need. Please use 450 for the school code and cto450 for the password when you apply.

Thomas E. Houser Memorial Scholarship
Tom Houser graduated from Saint Albert in 2000. He was active in many extracurricular activities and was a friend to all. Tom joined the United States Marines immediately following graduation as he was eager to serve his country. He served three tours overseas and was in the Marine Special Operations unit. Tom’s life was cut short by enemy fire in January 2005 — making Tom the first soldier from Council Bluffs to die in combat since the Vietnam War.
The Thomas E. Houser Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Tom for making the ultimate sacrifice in protecting the freedoms that allow Saint Albert to provide faith-based education.
The recipient will receive a scholarship in the amount of the 2013-14 parish tuition rate for the student’s grade level.
To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant must:
- Be enrolled in grades 9th -12th at Saint Albert High School
- Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Be active in school and parish activities
Applicants must also submit a two page essay explaining how Tom Houser has directly and/or indirectly impacted their life and why they should receive the scholarship. Applicants should also include two letters of recommendation (from a teacher, pastor, employer, volunteer, or supervisor), and a copy of their last report card.
Msgr. Kelly Circle of Excellence Award for Community Service
The Msgr. Kelly Circle of Excellence Award for Community Service was designed to encourage our students to participate in a lifetime of Christian service. At Saint Albert, we believe that service to community is a critical component of our mission. That commitment to stewardship helps ensure that our students will learn the value of human dignity and justice to be active participants in a global society.
The recipient will receive a $3,500 scholarship for his/her senior year at Saint Albert and an engraved plaque.
Applicants must complete service verification forms for a service portfolio that is evaluated by a panel of judges. The applicant whose service has had the greatest impact on the community will be named the winner.
Junior Class Excellence in Poetry Scholarship
The Junior Class Excellence in Poetry Scholarship is funded through an endowment that was established in 1998. All current students in the Saint Albert Junior Class are eligible for the scholarship.
The first place winner receives a $2,000 scholarship for his/her senior year. The second place winner receives a $300 scholarship for his/her senior year. The third place winner receives a $150 scholarship for his/her senior year.
The winners will be announced at Saint Albert’s Award Day in May.
Elaine and Virgil Wiese Scholarship
The Elaine and Virgil Wiese Scholarship was established at the Saint Albert Educational Foundation to provide an annual scholarship in the form of tuition assistance to students currently in 8th grade or above who plan to attend Saint Albert High School for the upcoming year.
The recipient(s) will receive a $1,000 scholarship for his/her following year at Saint Albert.
Applicants must complete an application and submit their last year’s grades. The top applicants will be interviewed by a panel of judges, who will select the winner(s). Criteria for the scholarship shall include, but are not limited to, character and academic potential.
Peggy McGinn Memorial Fine Arts Scholarship
Application for Peggy McGinn Memorial Fine Arts Scholarship
The Peggy McGinn Fine Arts Scholarship is a legacy to the spirit and energy that Peggy radiated during her years as an enthusiastic participant in the Fine Arts Program at Saint Albert Schools.
Applicants must be juniors at Saint Albert and must complete an application form defining their level of involvement in the Fine Arts at Saint Albert. Applicants must also submit an essay explaining how their Fine Arts experiences influenced their education and enriched their life.
The recipient(s) will receive a $1,000 scholarship for his/her senior year.
The recipient is announced at Saint Albert Awards Day in May.
Jerry Jares Leadership Scholarship
The Jerry Jares Leadership Scholarship is a legacy to the passion and leadership that Jerry showed to his work, to Saint Albert, to his local community, and to his faith.
Applicants must be students entering grades 9-12 and must complete an application form demonstrating their leadership activities at Saint Albert, in their community, and in their parish. Applicants must also submit an essay describing their leadership style and leadership goals for their high school (and future) career.
Monsignor Moriarty First in Class
The First in Class Scholarships are awarded to students in grades 9-11 for having the highest grade point average in their class.
The recipients will receive a $150 scholarship for their following year at Saint Albert.
No application is necessary. Recipients are notified when final grades are released in May.
Pat Rindone Scholarship
Pat Rindone was a 1978 graduate of Saint Albert. He participated in many sports at Saint Albert, and his passion for athletics continued throughout his life. Pat enjoyed baseball, golf, and water sports. As his children joined sports, Pat took on the role of director of PAL baseball, acted as a coach and role model for the Western Iowa Youth Sports Football Organization, and cheered on his children from the sidelines as a father and a spectator.
Pat provided his many friends and family with support, encouragement, and a positive outlook on life. No matter how busy he was, Pat was always upbeat and perceptive to the needs of those around him.
Pat was a loving husband, very proud father, and a steadfast friend. The Pat Rindone Scholarship was established to honor Pat who embodied the traditions of Saint Albert by living a life based on faith, family, and friends.
The recipient will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for his/her freshman year of college.
Applicants must complete an application and a one page essay explaining why they applied for this scholarship.
Need-Based Tuition Assistance
The Catholic Tuition Organization (CTO) helps families who want to send their children to Saint Albert, but are in need of tuition assistance. CTO awards tuition assistance to families based on their income.
Information Needed To Apply
Families applying for tuition assistance need to complete their federal tax return and mail a copy by April 1 for first round consideration. If you do not file a tax return because you are not required to do so, you can provide a copy of other documents from the state showing food stamps or aid to dependent children.
